SYNTHETIC DEMAND

Privacy

Last updated 25 October 2026

Synthetic Demand is a satirical game. It does not need to know who you are, and it does not ask: you can play everything without an account. Signing in with your email is optional, and there are no payments. This page lists everything the game keeps, so you can check.

Kept only on your device

Your in-progress game is saved in your browser's local storage so a closed tab does not cost you a run, and so is your record of finished runs (date, score and which market), so you can see whether you are getting better. Neither ever leaves your device. Clearing your browser's site data deletes them.

Kept by us

Some features send a small amount of data to our database. Each one is listed here before it goes live, and nothing outside this list is collected.

FeatureWhat is sentWhy
Game milestones Which step you reached (the front page opened, a run started, a quarter, the earnings call, the result, a share, a replay, where you stopped, whether a sign-in link was asked for and whether the form held it back as automated), the seed, the game mode and pack version, a random player id and a random id for that visit, and the time. To see where the game loses people and what they use. Nothing about who you are.
Feedback buttons ("this was dumb" / "this was great") Your rating, which game and decision it was about (the seed, the decision's id and the pack version), a random player id, and the time. To find out which parts of the game work.
Daily leaderboard The nickname you type, your score for that day's market, a random player id, and the time. To check the score, the decisions you made in that run are sent with it and replayed on our server; they are not stored. To show the daily table. Your nickname and score are public; the player id is not.

The random player id is created by your browser the first time you use one of these features. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account, and it lets us tie your entries together without knowing who you are. Please do not put personal information in a nickname.

If you sign in (optional)

Signing in sends a one-time link to your email address; there is no password. Your email address is stored by our sign-in provider, Supabase, and is used to send you that link and to recognise you when you come back. Alongside it we keep the random player id your browser had when you signed in (so your earlier results can be attached to your account), and whether you ticked the box asking for news about new eras and modes. That box starts unticked. If you tick it, every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and you can change your mind at any time by emailing us. We do not email you for any other reason.

Kept by our hosting and analytics providers

The site is hosted by Vercel, whose servers keep standard request logs (including IP addresses) for a short time for security and reliability. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It does not use cookies and does not identify you across sites. Our database and sign-in are hosted by Supabase. Each provider has its own privacy policy.

What we never do

Children

The game is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Deleting your data

Email privacy@syntheticdemand.com from the address you signed in with, or with your nickname and roughly when you played, and we will delete your account, your leaderboard and feedback entries and your milestone records. Leaderboard entries are kept while the leaderboard runs; feedback and milestones are kept for up to two years; an account is kept until you ask us to delete it.

Changes

If we start collecting anything new — accounts, emails, payments — this page changes first, and the date at the top changes with it.
